Technology

Powerful and safe

ECA Technology is the term used for Electrical Chemical Activation processes that produce powerful but entirely safe disinfectants and cleaning solutions using only the simple inputs of ordinary water and salt passed across a patented electrochemical cell. The solutions generated are non-toxic, non-allergenic and totally harmless to macro-organisms, including humans. This makes it safe to use across a wide variety of environments and applications. Solutions can be either generated in small ‘batch generators’ or for large volumes at high concentrations, through ‘flow-through’ generators. Control systems regulate the quality and properties of the solutions to make on-site production easy and highly cost effective.

the most environmentally technology

ECA Technology represents the most environmentally sensitive biocide technology available which is totally effective in eliminating all forms of micro-organisms in water supplies, on work surfaces and fabrics and materials. The inputs of water and salt are naturally occurring and sustainable products while the output biocide is pH neutral, non-toxic and non-hazardous to all macro-organisms while being totally effective against all bacteria, viruses, cysts, protozoa, algae and spores with no mutation or resistance. The technology allows for the biocides to be produced easily, cheaply and efficiently on-site, which combined with the sustainable properties of the inputs gives it a very small environmental footprint.

“The solutions generated by the Toucan units have been proven to destroy microorganisms very quickly and comprehensively – using only water and salt. They are highly effective against bacteria, viruses, spores and fungi, providing protection to water, surfaces, fabrics, foodstuffs and people”.

Potted history of ECA Technology

The technology was developed in the USSR (later Russia), by Professor Vitold Bakhir and his team at the Bakhir Electrochemical Systems and Technologies Institute in Moscow. The original concept was to develop a technology that could combat the effects of biological warfare by generating safe and effective biocides, quickly and easily on-site for use on humans, animals, equipment, crops and in water supplies.  ECA systems have been further developed in South Korea, Europe and the US, and ECA has become a mainstream technology for the production of biocides as an environmentally sensitive alternative to synthetically manufactured chemicals. ECA systems are now used across a wide spectrum of sectors including general cleaning and disinfection, water treatment, industrial process water in food processing and pharmaceuticals, in the oil and gas sector, and in shipping ballast water management systems.

ECA systems today can be used in the home for safe and efficient cleaning and disinfection, as well as by commercial and industrial customers. The systems available can generate solutions ranging from low volume, low concentration solutions for general use to high volume, high concentration, for specialist industrial tasks. The solutions will disinfect hard surfaces, fabrics and water supplies to very high levels of efficacy, killing all forms of microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, spores, fungi and moulds. The solutions will also clean hard surfaces and fabrics, leaving smear-free surfaces with a polished effect on stainless steel, glass and chrome. The solutions will eliminate biofilm – the environment that is created by microorganism on the internal surfaces of pipes and is a major source of pathogens such as Legionella – as well as killing the microorganisms in water supplies. The solutions will act as a natural deodoriser.

A growing number of sectors

ECA Technology today is being applied across a growing number of sectors for multiple applications as individuals and companies realise that they don’t have to use toxic, environmentally damaging and expensive synthetic chemicals to clean and disinfect. Using simply water, salt and a very small power input, these tasks can now be undertaken in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way, and save costs as well as the environment.
